Kundli details in a marriage biodata — every row, and how to fill it

The horoscope block usually carries time and place of birth, rashi, nakshatra with its charan, gotra and manglik — and sometimes nadi, gan and lagna. Here is what each row means, how to write it, and a filled example. Every row is optional.

Where it goes on the biodata

Right after personal details and before education — families who match kundlis look for it first, and families who do not can skip past it. Keep it to one short block; the full chart can follow later.

  • Hindu, Jain and Maharashtrian biodatas usually carry it; a South Indian biodata often reads the jathagam (nakshatra, padam, rasi, lagnam) first.
  • Leave the block out completely if your family does not use it — an empty horoscope block reads as an omission.
  • For the rest of the biodata, see the marriage biodata format.

Questions

What kundli details should be in a marriage biodata?

Time and place of birth, rashi (moon sign), nakshatra (birth star) and its charan, gotra, and whether the person is manglik. Some families add nadi, gan and lagna. All of them are optional.

What if the time of birth is not known?

Write the time you know with ‘approx.’, or leave the row out. Families who match kundlis will ask, and an approximate time is better than a guessed exact one.

What is the difference between manglik and partial manglik?

‘Manglik’ means Mars (Mangal) is placed in certain houses of the birth chart. ‘Partial’ or ‘anshik’ manglik is how some astrologers describe a milder placement. Write what your family's astrologer has said — ‘Yes’, ‘No’ or ‘Anshik (partial)’.

Do I have to include kundli details in my biodata?

No. Leave the whole block out if your family does not use kundli matching. In the form, the Muslim, Christian and Sikh starting sets come without it, and any set can remove it.

Should I attach the full janam kundli?

Usually not with the first biodata. Share the full chart when the other family asks for it.
